Foundation Certificate – Module 1
Next class: TBA.
Façade Academy offers an enhanced, two-day, two-module Foundation Certificate face painting course for beginners. We have found that two days give students a much more in-depth experience of the basic techniques, and more time to put the new skills into practice under the guidance of the instructor.
A mini painting kit will be included for those attending Foundation Certificate Modules 1 and 2.
Everything is supplied for these beginners’ classes – paint, brushes, sponges, pictures, magazines and plenty of handouts to take home. Modules 1 and 2 are suitable for those who are either complete beginners or those with a little experience. They are ideal for those who may simply want to paint at their children’s next school fair, enjoy realising their creative side, or who seriously want to consider a career in face painting.
Foundation Certificate Module 1 is extremely important. This will give information on:
• the face-painter’s kit: use and care of available brushes, sponges and paints, including recommended FDA and EU-compliant safe ones, and the surprising secrets of the expert’s kit bag.
• health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness; recognising infectious diseases and when not to paint the face; how to recognise contra-indications
• ergonomics: painting position sitting or standing; and how to take care of your back and shoulders
• interpersonal skills, child protection, parental permission
• Public Liability insurance
• Façade Academy student pack containing class notes, including product recommendations
… and that’s before we start painting!
Once onto the practical Foundation skills, topics covered will include:
• sponging and blending with two or more colours
• the essential brush control skills
• standing/ sitting and hand position
• consistency of paint
• thick and thin strokes, curves, swirls, teardrops and dots
• fluency and speed
• colour theory and combinations

• muscle memory
