New Year resolutions – have you made yours?
The start of a new year is the perfect moment to pause, reflect, and realign – and set goals, both as artists and as business owners. Whether you’ve been painting faces for years or are just beginning your journey, January offers that fresh-start feeling we all crave.
Here are my suggestions for New Year goals for face painters that blend the practical, the creative, and a healthy dose of self-care. Let’s make 2026 your most colourful year yet!
I will refresh my kit and workspace
A new year is the ideal time to give your kit a little TLC:
- Clean and declutter: Toss out old sponges, frayed brushes, and dried-up paints – a tidy kit saves time and boosts confidence at events
- Restock smartly: Make a list of your most-used colours and tools, then restock strategically rather than impulsively
- Organise your workspace: Whether you paint at events, from home, or both – streamline your setup for smoother prep and cleanup
Tip: Label your brushes, or organise them by size or purpose in your brush wallet. Keep duplicates of favourite colours at home so you can always restock quickly.
I will learn something new
Art thrives on curiosity!
Why not set a goal to learn one new technique this year? Maybe you’ve always wanted to master one-stroke flowers, improve your linework, or explore body painting and airbrush designs.
- FAM Club and in-person jams are great for skill-building and community connection
- Experiment with non-traditional tools or mediums – glitter gels, stencils, or UV paints – to spark new ideas
✨ Challenge: Each month, pick one theme (e.g. tigers, princess crowns, festival designs) and create three new variations. By December, you’ll have 36 new looks in your repertoire!

I will update my portfolio & branding
Your art evolves – make sure your online presence reflects that.
- Refresh your website or social media with crisp, well-lit photos
- Add a new logo watermark or cohesive colour scheme
- Revisit your pricing, terms, and event packages – make sure they reflect your current skill and market demand
Pro tip: Photograph your best work in natural light, against a simple backdrop, and always get permission from your models or clients.
I will prioritize self-care
Face painting can be physically and mentally demanding. Standing for hours, smiling through exhaustion, and managing busy event schedules take their toll.
This year, make self-care part of your professional plan.
- Stretch and hydrate between gigs
- Schedule downtime – your creativity needs rest to recharge
- Set boundaries: It’s okay to say no to last-minute bookings or underpriced events
Remember: You’re not just a service provider – you’re an artist and a human being. Taking care of yourself helps you show up as your best, most creative self.
I will reconnect with my ‘Why’
Amidst all the hard work, don’t lose sight of why you started painting faces. Was it the joy of seeing kids’ faces light up? The love of transforming art into experience?
Take a moment to reflect on what fuels you – and let that guide your goals for the year.
Maybe you’ll:
- Volunteer at a community event
- Collaborate with other artists
- Develop a signature design style that’s distinctly you

I will celebrate progress, not perfection
Perfectionism can quietly stifle creativity. Instead, aim for progress – smoother lines, faster setups, better client communication – little wins that add up.
Keep a photo album or journal of your work through the year. When next December rolls around, look back and celebrate how far you’ve come.
Here’s to a bright and beautiful 2026
Face painting is about more than colour on skin – it’s connection, confidence, and creativity in motion. As you step into the new year, set goals that nurture your craft, your business, and your wellbeing.
Here’s to more sparkle, more smiles, and a year full of inspiration. ✨
